Close to 30 years now collecting / tracking serial number data for: ultra high denominations, Series 1928 high denoms, and serial number data for 1934 Light Green Seal high denoms.........we know when we see a special note ! This 2201-A Light Green Seal $500 FRN is one of those notes. Of the 12 issuing banks, the 2201-A Boston bank is unquestionably, hands down, the THE RAREST $500 FRN Light Green Seal issuer. Print figures are completely irrelevant as the only true proof of rarity is actual frequency of encounter, survival rate and population report data. The vast majority of these notes were redeemed and destroyed. Truly UNCIRCULATED examples should be considered absolute trophy notes ! Here are the numbers: PCGS Currency (now defunct) graded 1 (one) truly Uncirculated 2201-A LGS. It graded GEM UNC 65 PPQ and brought $21,600 at auction in 2019 (we have owned or brokered that note twice.) Once as recently as this year. - PMG has graded ONLY ONE 2201-A LGS note. It's a PMG 64 that lacks the EPQ designation. Regarding PCGS Banknote; this third party grader has graded just one truly UNCIRCULATED 2201-A Light Green Seal $500 FRN. That is this note offered here graded PCGS-B CHOICE CU 63 PPQ. It sits at the top of the PCGS-B population report, finest known, population 1, none finer.
